Hard Drink

Hard drinks (Alcoholic beverages) in the event were mainly ale, that is, beer-based alcoholic beverages, and followed by Japanese sake. Our mind and body become happy after we drink. Therefore, hard drinks cannot be absent in the occasions that people want to relieve their stresses. Over time, it has gradually played an important role in the leisure life of the Japanese. Hard drinks are easily found in leisure and recreational places.

Soft Drink(Non-Alcoholic Beverage)

Soft drinks were one of the popular drinks at the event. Among them, the Hirano Sui (Water) and Soda were originated from the Black Ship Incident in 1853. It was the first time the carbonated drinks were introduced to Japan. It wasn't until 1899 that the soft drinks began to be produced in Taiwan.

Frozen Dessert

In addition to liquid alcohol or carbonated beverages, frozen desserts were very popular in the event vunue. 


In the early days, the most common frozen dessert was banana-oil-flavored shaved ice. In 1904, the Taiwanese ice cream appeared in Tamsui Noryo Kai event.

Cuisine/Street Food

Many food ingredients in the event were mainly Japanese. For example, oden, cold noodles, cold rice cake and red bean soup, sweets such as yokan, and sushi, etc. The restaurants mostly served Japanese cuisines.


Later, influenced by the Westernization of Japan, Western cuisine started to be noticed in the venue. In addition to Japanese and Western cuisine, the name "Stew" had appeared. In 1910, Taiwanese street food such as wonton and somen were also introduced to the Beitou Noryo Train. 

Onsen Snack and Beverage

In the Beitou hot spring area, except for the diversified cuisine provided by various restaurants and hotels, snacks and beverage were sold in the Public Bathhouse. For example, Morinaga milk caramel, senbei, large soda, and small soda in glass bottle; tourists could purchase the items after bath.


In addition, Beitou's hot spring water is also made into different food and beverage items, such as ramune and “Yu no Hana Senbei”. Because the mineral springs were rich in nutrients, they had become famous products of Beitou.
